About Us

Synchronized skating is one of the fastest growing disciplines in figure skating today.  It offers the experience of team involvement and commitment balanced with fun while improving skating skills and self-confidence. This sport is governed by Skate Canada.

Synchronized skating consists of a well-balanced program composed and skated to music of the team’s own choice.  A good program contains elements such as circles, lines, blocks, wheels, intersections, spins, moves in the field and movements in isolation linked together by a variety of transitions. Synchronized skating refers to the quality of skating, importance of unison, the accuracy of formations and the detail of the team. The judging system currently in place, is called CPC or Cumulative Points Calculation.

Team members may be comprised of all females, all males or a combination of male and female skaters. Depending on the team, the team size may vary, along with the length of the program that is skated.

The Barrie Royal Blades Synchronized Skating Club has been in existence for over 20 years. In that time, we have enjoyed the success of having teams participate at the provincial, national and international level.  Our success is due to the commitment of the many volunteers who give of their time in the capacity of administering the day to day operations of the club and by the desire, commitment and dedicated hard work of our skaters, encouraged and trained by outstanding individuals who make up our coaching staff.

Teams are formed each season depending upon the number of skaters and their skill levels.  Our goal is to give all skaters the opportunity to experience synchronized skating and to continue to build and develop skaters.

Our focus is to provide an environment that demonstrates and upholds the values we teach our skaters through their involvement with the Royal Blades. To respect and honor the commitment made by the skaters, coaches and directors and the skater families. To continue to grow and improve as an organization, maintaining our status in the synchronized skating community, as an organization to be challenged, admired and respected. To do the best we can for the benefit of all, building friendships and having fun along the way!
